OCP & Cruise ship

Sunny day greets 1st Cruise ship

A very pleasant evening greeted the Norwegian Star on its first visit to PR in 2010

The use of Court Yard for Farmers’ Market worked well – but one might fear no one will go down to 3rd Avenue now

But Rupert made the effort to spruce up

Civic Pride nagging got some results as this building repainted etc

But even Charlotte’s nagging could not move the owners of these building to do any maintenance

At least not a grow op

Of Course --- plywood sheets aren’t only window coverings

The cruise ship passengers had mostly gone back to ship when this restaurant put up the metal gates to protect against vandalism --- Drunks hanging out in alleys are an ongoing problem (see below) – presumably would take more vigilance from store owner – but also need community programs to get these drunks off the streets (alleys)

A good reason for passing the OCP map now was it did have good presentation of Ridley, Watson etc

OCP and legalities of zoning changes

I spoke with planner and he confirmed changes in zoning of individual properties in OCP map (see earlier) are merely a statement of intent – thus changing SQCRD and RCMP and NWCC to ‘Commercial’ as was done in new map – merely give intent to change – there will be a subsequent amendment to 2009 Zoning Bylaw ‘sometime in next 6 weeks’. A sceptic might conclude it will be done in summer when most no one notices --- More later

And a closer look at properties show this apartment block is on the map – just not zoned on OCP 2010

Season progress

I like all those ornamental fruit trees in bloom – the arrow is to dead limbs on the Pine which might be more general in community (Pine Beetle?) ---- and image below shows the transition from dandelion blooms to seed heads is just beginning – the end of spring etc
