May 10th Council meeting

Ho- hum

Council irrelevant?

Nelson Kinney had the right idea and departed after passing of City Budget which was moved up on agenda to accommodate his presumed birthday party

But the real ‘business’ was the tabling of the 2009 Audit (which I will go into more detail later) and the ‘untold’ story is the pro forma passing of amendments to OCP – after ‘public input’ --- again return later

I count 30 plus changes made such as  ‘boundaries adjusted’ to rezoned Industrial – or rezoned residential to match current usage – and we (the gullible public) are assured everything followed the ‘intent’ of policy – More later

Let the staff tell us what to do and we will stamp approval

New digital map much better detail – but what about the small zoning changes? Did Council scrutinize these in-camera – or automatic pilot?

Those light yellow areas (residential) on new map says ‘Boundary changed to reflect current use’ – this is where abuse could occur – now no need to rezone these properties – owned by whom? – but resolution too poor to comment further

After some discussion put off till next September – presumably Ashley & Thorkelson ‘busy’ and they will probably end up doing most the Council participation  – more later

Waiting till next September

Probably the ‘best’ item was Councillor Ashley ‘request’ that some kind of group be set up to deal with local issues ---

Gordon Payne questioned if Municipality should be getting into discussion about pricing booze --- Bedard reluctantly agreed with the motion so long as >$$ went to prevention

Probably more discussion than topic merited

And as Ashley asked – yes if in the future we can provide the water – we can since only a contract by port and presumably has to be renewed

Seems to be a technicality – Law requires a service provided by one ‘municipality’ within another’s boundaries be given formal consent

Because so much done in-camera – not explained rationale for new audit format (nor even mentioned)

Key document of the evening – Gordon Payne asks some questions BUT

More Wednesday
