We See

Circus, in town (and Council) + OCP & GHG emissions

We are going to have amendments to Official Community Plan on 10th and 25th meeting

Saving the planet or Saving $$ --- Mayor wants no commitments to spending $$

We See Around Rupert

The Eagle taking advantage of the view above CityWest is from Tuesday --- the re-roofing of older Totem theater perhaps means new use for the building foreseen

The OCP maps get an update – going digital and looking at all the City not just the developed area

Public Hearing – at May 10th meeting to Amendment QLOCP Long Range Land Use Plan (LRLUP)--- specifically only the map left will change (The document and links to map etc are on City site or here is the map (PDF 3.2megs)

Two points here --- note the change in detail from 2007 map (below left) --- and all the added or changed items --- as highlights on excerpt below

Updated map and what has changed (excerpt)

These greening changes to OCP will come up for public hearing at may 25th meeting – Councillor Joy Thorkelson pointed out during the discussion that City already had a GHG emissions report dating from 2007 consultants report --and this should be used for PR baseline data – the file is still available online –

I question the GHG emissions from electricity used here as PR is all Hydro (water) with only back up dependent upon fossil fuels

Note too that Solid Waste emissions are not part of Bill 27

Commitments and Spending $$$ --- Link to City 2007 file on Community Energy Plan

Climate Action Charter – and our commitment (City facilities) to becoming Carbon Neutral by 2012

Mussallem did not want any commitments that might cost us $$ -- but it was unclear (at Council meeting) if City signing on to the Climate Charter was legally binding (we would have to buy offsets etc if not meet our goals – whatever they might be)

-- a reading of the Climate Action Charter found the following

So are there 3 maps or just the one? – Legal implications

Here is previous Carbon Neutral Discussion in February 2008(end of page)
