Special Council mtg tonight

Taxes & OCP

The real problems remain unaddressed --- poverty, alcoholism etc – I am told the ‘loud party’ reported was in the back shelter – not in apartments --- boisterous drunks present 11PM – night of fire

Referendum next year?

Mentioned during last meeting in passing – perhaps to finally address infrastructure – but probably only new fire hall etc

 

Booze anywhere and everywhere

I took the picture mainly for the metal siding – which one business owner wanted to use on his ‘stucco’ building but refused by building department as incompatible with OCP --- a letter to Editor by local Architect argued City should maintain these guidelines – citing Granville Island and Cow Bay as if either were appropriate to the discussion – more later but debate should be done at City Council level

 

 

At one time Rupert had a vigorous art community – both as above and first nations heritage etc

Along with Stucco etc but not metal siding – what about plywood sheets? Latter becoming siding of choice to prevent vandalism etc

 

 

Council main purpose

Still taking care of those fees – where GST not included – but Council did not take input from airport employees into changes

 

 

An all those derelict cars on public property

Time to have a city wide campaign as was done in previous years Here is last one in May 2007

 

Invasive species

I am not sure what the botanical name of this daisy like weed that rapidly invades yards --- as at left --- not in can’t start in the un-mown segment --- and avoids back yard where wetter soil according to owner

 

Gardening in PR

Seems many advocate the use of raised beds etc to get best production in our sometimes not so sunny weather --- note the extensive wiring etc to keep out the deer --- I am planning extensive Gardening past & present section for web site this summer – perhaps a database on what plants and varieties work and don’t etc
