City Council meeting

First look

Captain(N) Alexander Reuben answering Councillors questions after cerem, onial presentation of plaque of HMSC Prince Rupert

Is this Council irrelevant?

I will return to the topic tomorrow --- today I give what was dealt with in the open meeting (which was shorter than the preceding in-camera meeting) --- Some pomp and ceremony celebrating 100th anniversary of Canadian Navy--- and a presentation by Judy Rae on Cancer Prevention etc

Most of the info on plaque including the ship’s picture is online

After the Photo ops there were some questions – the bell appears authentic and is on loan – the plaque will remain

Of pomp & circumstance – signifying--?

Here is from their web site – Centenary as ‘momentous occasion’ along with its own advertising slogan: which is copyrighted by the way

‘The centennial will be a momentous milestone both in our navy and nation’s history. We will honour the past, celebrate our achievements and recognize our obligation to Canada with the naval centennial slogan: Commemorate, Celebrate, Commit’

And could we forget the ‘Ready aye Ready’ web site for Navy? Here with the plaque info for HMSC Prince Rupert

And will the navy be visiting Rupert again?

Gordon Payne ‘remembered’ the last time Navy in town for opening of Port in 2007 (or Googled the info) --- and asked if increased visits in future of ships etc --- $$$ was the Captains answer (thus < number sea days etc)

Judy Rae

Cancer detection and prevention presentation – plus April 9th officially Daffodil Day in PR etc resolution --- as she said most the info available on BC Cancer Society web site for links to – or brochures

Almost the only ‘real’ info at meeting

More later

For whatever reason this was withdrawn from agenda – Discussed in-camera?? --- As I remember the property to receive land belongs to family of a Councillor

More later

From Plaque

More later --- Thorkelson brought up the role of Sea Cadets etc and youth – her two sons went through the program locally etc

Is (this) Council irrelevant?

Will approach this by what other Councils are doing --- of course other Councils probably don’t meet 2 hours before every Council meeting ‘in-camera’

More later
