We See

SD 52 and spring

The wheelchair access ramp removed from post office over last few days – presumably part of the Federal infrastructure spending spree

Spring cometh—and alder releasing pollen already

Signs of the time?

I liked the image of this fellow (white arrow) having to change the greeting sign with a very long extension pole – one letter at a time

More about Monday’s School closure forum

The presentation material is now online at SD 52 Consultations site – from whence I got the spiffy logo left etc – see bottom of their page for PDF

As I said last time some of the ‘slides’ are quite complex and should be read online – always remembering comments close Thursday

Inputs by email accepted till 18 March Email:  consult@sd52.bc.ca

And why are we keeping PRSS open?

This is the place that has to be pumped out whenever either a heavy rain comes or the tides high – site reputedly sits on a previous dump/ land fill – thus vulnerable to changes in the water table

Previously I suggested Seismic risk might be significant factor

Left is one of the several source documents I came across --- and though Seismic Risk may not be totally ignored – Rupert ranking (3) is not nearly as high as on Charlottes or even Vancouver etc

The largest earthquake in Canada was August 22nd 1949 along the QC fault at 8.1 – would be interesting to hear from ‘old timers’ what happened in PR that date etc

Closing Roosevelt

From catchments perspective looks like gerrymandering to keep Westview open

Closing Westview

Councillor Anna Ashley was at the closure forum (as was Garon) – Anna asked about the policy of trans-boundary movements – would have to re-apply yearly etc

Agreed that policy would have to be redone after closures

Conrad and who attends

This too is from a map on the walls of the Forum Discussion – I have used the present Roosevelt school students --- as different coloured dots – and looks like on order of 15 students presently transfer out of the catchment area to attend French Immersion – thus if latter taught at Roosevelt instead of Westview may not have as much vehicular traffic as parent drive student to school etc

Downtown Business men at Council

PRDN presently has a good summary of the Council meeting and the Businessmen’s presentation online – I will do follow up tomorrow
