We See

More SD 52 meetings

Cam McIntyre, Secretary Treasurer begins to give his PPT budget Thursday evening at CHSS library

SD 52 -- 2010-2011 Budget Process

– The first Advisory Budget Committee (ABC) Meeting

There was a Hockey game scheduled same time at Auditorium – so jokingly threatened to duct tape any potential questioners

But not needed – meeting was over in half an hour

From the PPT presentation

I am told the presentation and the accompanying handouts will be put online – link to follow but for now use their main web site

‘We will have some challenges not seen in previous years’

I have copied part of the ‘Cost Pressures’ page which together add up to $559,589 dollars

---

I will go into more detail later about where the $$ possibly coming from (partial re-establishment of Annual Facilities Grant (AFG))etc

---

But the $$ left over from last year ($523T) could provide the bulk of the ‘deficit’ financing for 2010-2011 --- but read the small print – provincial regulations allow only ½ that surplus to be used –‘this was unanticipated’ and staff only found out about it recently from Province etc

More later

See last page and then  my previous on School closures – Roosevelt page has links to previous years

Bussing Students

Many local parents especially in the Roosevelt catchment area reminded the previous ‘closure’ meeting that they did not have cars – so what happens if miss bus, etc? While those from Port Edward did not want to have kindergartners etc bussing to town if that school closed --- One person asked who was liable if someone hurt on school bus? – good question and no one knew – though suggested it would be coverd in the bussing contract and FarWest’s new owner First Canada would have depth etc to meet that (see previous)

Spring coming on strong despite recent chilly rainy weather

Here the Cow Parsnips growing several inches per day in this bog along McBride across from Civic Center parking lot --- see earlier page where not till April

City Council and Development Permit areas

While not implementing the full requirements of DPA was suggested at Council meeting by the 3 downtown business reps ---- and seemed sensible idea – I am told by those familiar with Local Government legislation that would be hard to effect in practice – the mover and seconder of original bylaw would have to agree – or perhaps the Mayor might be able to do it on his own (to bring Bylaw back after being passed to change implementation dates etc)  more later
