Update on PR
signage re Highway of Tears |
|
See the web site http://www.highwayoftears.ca/ Thorkelson was apparently absent the meeting last year when council decided the only option available for sign was out highway on Reserve land because Ministry of Highways would not allow sign on its right of way --- at Mondays meeting it was put forward to place the sign on City property closer to where young people more likely to hitchhike --- after some discussion different and more effective (and less costly) alternatives were in order – at time providing education (along with Community RCMP officer) at local schools A community member
suggested to me subsequently that it is illegal to hitchhike and that signage
is provided by Province in other communities so why not ask them—and
similarly along Highway 16 into PG etc? |

Rupert
is almost unique in BC that the foreshore is owned as private property Which
means that when the Cruise ship docks built there was a rush to purchase
those lots – a long and interesting story that may involve insider
information etc but not dealt with here) I
have noted the sale last November by
City to Metlakatla for 265T$ of the property they are using for dock ---

Electoral
Areas as Settler outposts |
|
A
question at the SQCRD Budget consultation was about the spending of the
Tsunami funding which Oona River and Dodge Cove using --- I took the
opportunity to ‘remind’ the Board that since Electoral Area A and C both have about 94% of their
population are 1st nations living on Reserves --- why were not
villages brought into Tsunami preparation? – And since the gas tax $$ that
Dodge Cove (150T$) was going to use for its new water facility was given to
Electoral Areas based upon a per capita amount given by the Feds --- have the
Area A and D 1st nations benefited from any Gas Tax $$? Were they
even told about it? (see
my earlier for background material) Perhaps
my question was misunderstood --- because both Mussallem and Nobles were
vocally ‘outraged’ at my comments ---- More later |
