Prince Rupert Regional Information Site

March 8th

Interesting Week ahead

Council to SD 52 to SQCRD

Council meeting should be interesting—call it the ‘Revolt of 3rd Avenue Business owners’

And then Tuesday the SQCRD will reveal its proposed 2010 Budget – with 500T$ deficit from 2009 – which Rupert Taxpayers will have to absorb

Throw in the school closures ‘consultations’ – and oh ya, the hundredth anniversary or PR etc

I have included a few items from their presentation included in agenda package --- many deal with the recent innovations of OCP – which ‘revolutionary’ implications are finally beginning to become obvious: new parking rules for staff and customers—plus full implications of Development Permit Areas (DPAs)---- $600 application fees—and in a time of recession ---- But someone has to pay the planners $100T salary

More later

Going Green?

Saving GHG emissions by ‘requiring’ increased parking rather than > transit use?

Typical Rupert ‘forward thinking’

I will show pictures later – pseudo Rustic approach to ‘selling’ downtown to tourists etc

It is time to rethink the usefulness of Regional District as presently set up

SQCRD

Needs public input

Meeting Tuesday 5PM at SQCRD for public input to ‘discuss’ proposed budget

Note the tax increases for mainly PR

400T$ deficit in 2009??!!

More later

Roosevelt Teacher Alison Bureau critiques the SD 52 ‘facts’

More on this later in day ---
