The timeline and process

While Enbridge was heavy into the Economic Benefits: jobs, taxes, skills

For me one of the more telling moments of their presentation—and one assumes pre Gulf blow out/ spill ---- was the figure how much oil is currently shipped to North America via tankers – and it is not all US as Eastern Canada is also reliant upon tankers for their supply etc --- but see the current media where Gulf changes ‘frame’ of Kitimat pipeline/ tankers. Even Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff calling for a ban on tankers in North Coast waters

But the opposition was there too (on short notice)

On left is Twyla Roscovich taking video at the Enbridge presentation – see her site for wealth of coastal BC films etc

The question period was utilized by activists to counter the Enbridge message on ‘benefits’ and $$$ -- I will go into both Enbridge slide show, Council’s responses and questions from citizens later in week

As is typical of these kinds of things – Once Enbridge over – almost everyone leaves

Other than media – only the accountant for auditor firm of Carlyle Shepherd and Co. in Prince Rupert – Ernie Dusdal was left in room --- he had ‘unqualified’ approval of audit – He was asked to attend by Gordon-Payne who unfortunately absent (thus her concerns went unasked) more later

Probably the most significant event of evening

Dan Rodin gave a long and detailed ‘explanation’ of the Statement of Financial Information – this was a late minute addition to agenda – more later

Ferry fares ‘amendment’ went undiscussed

Changes of previous meeting were interpreted as a ‘clerical mistake’ – and thus the old system (with its huge PR public subsidy put back in place ($915T in 2009)– with only the fare increases remaining --- (see my previous for background) More later

Plus even Rodin’s presence could not ‘cow’ council into accepting his Revitalization package (more later)

Garon and Thorkelson star in questions comments – more later
