Here is a story
typical of Rupert (as I heard it) – the building’s other side has been repaired
– but the owner of the lot where Husky station won’t allow scaffolding on his
property – so as one observer commented – maybe the owner will gladly pay
City to come in and fix the façade |
|
Depopulation of
North – and ‘Leakage’ of our assets to ‘South’ |
|
|
Another
Typical Rupert ‘story’ |
|
Tourists
have turned the empty parking lot into a camp ground/ parking lot --- again they
are probably right – but it should be for pay parking --- absentee owner
oblivious to ‘our’ needs |

UNBC
Community Development Institute |

Talk
given Tuesday night – hopefully also earlier in day to city government/ staff
– as none of them were present at public meeting—though Gary Coons was – Don Manson was the speaker – and
the www.unbc.ca/cdi/toolkit.html
was
emphasized for further study |
|
During
Bennett era the North seemed to matter --- during the Campbell era –
everything centers on SW corner where the votes are (my overview on his talk)
|
I will
return with fuller discussion tomorrow |
|

The full
presentation (slides) available on CDI web
site |

Here
is the link to the rather
large PDF (4.3megs) |

Thus UNBC
can be central to both understanding the past but also mapping out our
desired future – and suggesting roads to get there with etc |
In a
knowledge based global world --- need the Academics – not just the outside
‘consultants’ |
|
|
|
|
Many of the
problems are similar across the north in a post resource based economy |
|
Here
is the most significant and challenging aspect of the presentation – believes
in community based answers to where we want to go – after decide who/ what
‘we’ are as a community of PR |

Community
Based Mixed Martial Arts training ($$) for 10 year olds?? |
|
This
poster plastered around town where kids might go – personally I would rather
see them up at the Civic Center playing basketball for free |
