City Council SQCRD and ‘old boys club’

Koning Contracts etc

SQCRD will curtail public comment next meeting

Surprise clearing Monday PM

A look at taxes to SQCRD from PR

I have done the following using SQCRD budgets—Rupert paid 111T$ more taxes to SQCRD in 2010 for Administration than 2009 and about 97T$ more in total

2009

2010

Administration

 $     154,422

 $      265,820

Recycling

 $     152,074

 $      144,034

North Pacific

 $      32,000

 $        32,000

Archives

 $      60,374

 $        54,311

Total

$398,870

 $496,165

Note the total Tax requisition Rupert paid in 2010 I computed to be 496T$ which is close to figure I was given by Finance of $ 496,018

Note City made a similar argument in 2009 for not extending dump hours as given by Recycling

Thesis – curtailing Recycling hours was to compensate for other SQCRD cost increases

Image left was from the proposed 2010 Budget at SQCRD for recycling --- a proposed 10T$ increase became an 8T$ cut when finally passed

Koning Salary and perks

Accommodations (5T$) plus 75$ per diem ($9,450) for 2010 – until May 29th --- I have been told as result of an FOI

Travel home over last 2 contracts was to be about 4200$

And Finally to finish off the ‘teaching’ stint’ on June 26th

Is the SQCRD a waste of Rupert $$$?

We pay while others spend

Yesterday I was mistaken about Rupert’s weighted vote --- they only have 7 of 16 (based upon population) --- I have gone through this before --- Rupert has about 75% of the taxable value in the SQCRD but less than half the votes --- in many ways this is an anomaly because of the high First Nations population in NW BC ---who (when on Reserve) neither pay taxes – nor tend to vote in Regional District elections --- leading to anomaly of Dodge Cove and Oona River ‘controlling’ and expropriating much of the value (gas taxes and grant $$ etc)

But don’t cast stones

Koning took home 74T$ from Rupert taxpayers in 2009 (see my earlier)

I have Koning working about 5 months for the City in 2009 ---While we don’t have the FOI of contract etc, it is obvious that she earned about 12T$ more from ‘us’ than she got at SQCRD for similar length of time --- again her extended role was similar – in City’s case about 2 months ‘teaching’ her replacement at City

I have Koning ‘ending’ in March

But then working through until end of May presumably tutoring

See end this file for background on Holland leaving etc at SQCRD

Street Trees

Looks like this ‘beautification’ exercise was futile --- this one is dead and numerous others along this stretch are sick and dying --- looks like trees in planter boxes worked better – more later

We See new store opening

JVA Family entertainment – looks like games etc aimed at kids from the one window that can see through

Mainly Goldenrod – I like this ‘weed’ because it is the males that are the shwy ones while females more hum drum – mainly producing seeds etc
