Art and PR

Local artist Jonathon Seagull prepares a painting in front of his shop on 2nd – pet dog giving advice

Sunset and totem poles

Local roots go deep into past

Ken and Margaret Campbell were instrumental in the 2nd local native art  ‘renaissance’ – Margaret had a native arts store on 3rd --- Dempsey Bob told me years ago that it was there he and others learned the craft of carving --- Frieda Diesing would give art instructions in the back of the Harris’ store after it had closed for business in evenings ---

See this (off site) PDF how Ken came to publish book on left – perhaps kindling his interest in bringing back a past pushed aside by residential schools etc

Some of totem poles on this site from 1st Renaissance:

Alder House City Hall ------ Grizzly Bear House Hospital Hill --Rainbow House Fulton St

Koona Main site-- Ninstints – older page --- Tanu poles main page: Kids park – Civic Center

Recent SOFI statements allow Citizens to see how much our ‘Public Servants’ are taking home

So how much does the SQCRD (primarily Rupert taxpayers) pay the Acting CAO? I will later put copy of parts of recent FOI on that matter – but we already know that 5 months in 2009 cost about 63T$ (from SOFI)--- and did that include the $75/day per diem? And the $1,000 month ‘living expenses? Not to mention the 5 trips back ‘home’ per year paid for by us?

So why are ‘we’ paying all this $$ --- I would be guessing but I would suggest Mayor Mussallem wanted her there after she left PR City Hall, and so we pay the bill

For cutback in Recycling hours see my previous

Does Paying Koning translate into reductions at Recycling?

The Regional district does not make its total tax requisition to PR tax payers ‘visible’ --- but we can see how much the Recycling depot costs (it is broken out in budget) --- and funny thing Prince Rupert paid 8,040 less in 2010 than in 2009 – about the same amount that the reduction in hours was meant to cover.

I suggest the increases to administration to cover Koning wages demanded cuts elsewhere to keep Rupert’s share of SQCRD tax requisition same as 2009 – More later

Called ‘Indian Rhubarb’ – which surprised me as I am allergic to its juices – but the trick is to gather it early before it produces flowers etc – see Nancy Turner PDF

See my previous for more --- my 2005 and June 2000 for detail flower--

Heracleum lanatum  Cow Parsnip – the last of the showy flowers – academic page on this species

Gardens locally

Lots of work here – but not much growing s yet – perhaps this approach needs to be supplemented with a more ‘garden on balconies’ type approach – more later
