Is alcohol a problem in PR?

I was told by passer bys that the man being removed by ambulance was a local man passed out from alcohol in a door way – perhaps it was Welfare Wednesday as numerous drunks staggering and kids obviously ‘stoned’ seen on streets --- too bad there is not more of an effort to teach kids about dangers of alcohol – I recently heard an attractive young girl saying she would go to a party (with the fellow?) only if she got her own bottle of rum before

Sheila Gordon-Payne at last SQCRD meeting to give ‘community outreach’ talk

No place to stay in PR?

The ending of program to allow mainly pregnant mothers cheap apartment in PR while awaiting to give birth did receive good criticism by Barry Paiges – he reminded Gordon Payne that one Medevac from Islands to PR would cost more than the upkeep NH’s accommodations in PR --- and it was not a room but an Apartment that was needed/ appreciated by the expectant mothers

No Budgets?

Gordon Payne made an interesting observation, that she found many of the programs e.g., ‘Healthy Heart’ were not officially budgeted and had some how just shown up over time without any dedicated funding --- so typical of Rupert ‘we do it our way and worry about rules later’

Dealing with issues early on rather than having to see the patient in ER --- much cheaper and better outcomes

More on Salmon

Excellent Tyee article on Salmon – first is on the adaptable Pink --- and the 2nd contrasts the thriving Harrison sockeye with the declining Fraser River stocks

Soon to be removed

According to Gordon Howie at last Coucnil meeting

What is really significant is the ‘rebellion’ brewing over the Dan Rodin style of ‘Administration’ and its relation to elected City Council and ‘democracy’ – more later
