We See

Boondoggles to trucks

Revitalization as potential boondoggle --- could owners turn into an apartment building and claim ‘revitalization’? — Who knows but we as voters will be asked to approve the legislation next Monday

·        Inattentive Council??

Oversized trucks on streets

Ferry managers’ car allowances

Tomorrow: managers’ pay

·        Found Art – by tourist

·        SQCRD mtg

NDIT $$

August mtg?

·        Spruce decline

Presumably the ‘over-sized’ truck delivering mail – and then will go down alley etc to get back on highway

We used to have By-laws about this sort of thing – but then we too should probably turn a blind eye as it is ‘our’ mail --- and road repairs will hopefully be sometime in the future

City Council in ‘automatic pilot’ mode??

I was told by a former Council member that the car allowance for the Airport Ferry ‘managers’ was because they had to do a lot of running back and forth with collection $$ etc ---- Assuming I understood correctly, that would be an older job function that is no longer needed—thus the monies are now collected by airlines --- of course that too is another boondoggle (or incompetence?) --- we subsidize all those unpaying ‘greeters’ etc because City Management had not done their homework – (who will collect the $$, etc) --- and as I stated before the fee increase bylaw was treated (publicly) as another typing mistake – shades of the 5M$ mistake earlier

Light post detail as found art

Found Art – a tourist with camera was happy to show me their discovery of a ‘Jackson Pollack’ like design –as image below --- I was wondrous as we were standing on the bridge to section 2 – ‘Where did you see that?’ I asked --- she pointed to the lamp post (in need of fresh painting)

SQCRD meeting --- and Northern Trust $$$ --- It is who you know in this town

What ever happened to the Mt Hays ‘zipline’?

And one might question the lack of vision shown by ‘our’ representatives --- signage and ziplines are aimed at either cruise or auto traffic tourism --- Is that our only future option??

The grant was for signage etc --- note this was same meeting that turned down another Community Group request for funding as ‘no money’

Provided in paperwork was this summary of what has been paid out previously and how much $$ remains – we see North Pacific Cannery has already received 30T$

I will do the these referrals tomorrow

But note the ‘irony’ in that Directors usually accept the agenda ‘as written’ ---- thus they have inadvertently voted to accept a meeting in August – contrary to what was said in meeting when next one would be

Sitka Spruce locally in decline – disease or climate change or both?

This one is at advanced state of decline – usually only a few branches seen dying (image below left on McBride street)--- accompanied with needle loss--- I had a chance to investigate a small tree accessible along that same street --- (see below)

Shades of Brown

At some point these are going to have to be dealt with by City and Crews – so better to get a handle on what is happening and how long a ‘window’ we have to deal with it

Symptoms

This is a live branch on an accessible (small) tree – Note the discoloration – no obvious sign of aphids nor beetles etc --- just blotches of brown where chloroplast being destroyed – which slowly ‘covers’ whole needle etc

Low Cloud etc

At least not raining as yesterday --- hopefully system has moved thorough
