From sunsets to SQCRD meetings

Sunset foretells a decent day on Friday

·        Sunsets

·        SQCRD Meeting tonight

·        In-camera reasons

·        Electoral Areas and Gas Tax

Meeting Tonight at 7 PM

But looks like the pubic meeting is perfunctory as they are now doing most everything in-camera (much like Prince Rupert City Council)

Here is their list of ‘reasons’

This must mean about John Farrell’s position—will he be promoted to CAO? Or will Helen Koning be coming back in September (see next item)

Community Charter 90.1

(a) personal information about an identifiable individual who holds or is being considered for a position as an officer, employee or agent of the municipality or another position appointed by the municipality

Perhaps with the Recycling Depot and the potential reduction of hours in September

(c) labour relations or other employee relations;

Interesting --- I suspect an update on Watson Island for their information

(e) the acquisition, disposition or expropriation of land or improvements, if the council considers that disclosure could reasonably be expected to harm the interests of the municipality;

Below I am posting items from the Agenda package

Hopefully soon the SQCRD will be posting these (as a PDF) on their own web site

More Fish

In past the salmon project ‘Ocean Ranching’ as in Alaska—hopefully involving first nations

More Wind mills

I will report on these after the meeting

Electoral areas

They hold their own meetings – done on 8th July so minutes presented here --- I would wish that all Haida Gwaii members meet in similar way and present their minutes to main board as much of meetings seem like ‘small’ (petty?) issues from the Islands --- Better yet they could just form their own Regional District and Rupert could go in with Terrace etc at Stikine RD

Now this is interesting

I have discussed(and use link there to previous)  the use (abuse) of gas tax funding $$ before --- hopefully Director Putterill is speaking for local 1st Nations too – as they are the ones being ‘robbed’ as Area A & C directors use the $$ for their non-native communities but funding on a per capita basis

We re getting into almost quasi legal issues here --- who is entering into agreements using Gas Tax $$$

Before the $$ was going to the Landfill (illegally in my opinion)--- More later

So why are they closing the meeting

(j) information that is prohibited, or information that if it were presented in a document would be prohibited, from disclosure under section 21 of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act

And here is Section 21—referred to above

Partnering agreements 21  If a municipality enters into a partnering agreement for the provision of a service on behalf of the municipality, the council may(a) provide assistance, other than tax exemptions, to a business in accordance with the agreement

Good Cruise ship day

I see too where SQCRD will discuss giving Islands access to meetings (via internet?)

Ships presently in Harbour      See Port schedule pdf
