  Enclosure of the commons?

See below—

Over last few days the outside deck has had upgrading with rails etc – now even flower pots – I suggest they may have exceeded their rental contract – the foot print is what they paid for but upper deck larger than base –

See 2005 on Patios and 8 foot rule for sidewalks – until quite recently ‘street signs’ were illegal – and here from 2004 where signs take over sidewalks – now its patios

Sidewalks as public property

First it was all the signs and advertising – now a local hotel has ‘rented’ sidewalk to build a street patio --- next thing they will call it ‘revitalization’ and have us pay for it too

I will return to this tomorrow questioning if carrot is a giveaway or sustainable --- Here note how PR Economic Development will soon do a press release on their hiring replacement for last Manager

City Council --- carrots an sticks on revitalization

Work Safe BC looks at Epicurean building

It came out at Council meeting that Work Safe has yet to come up with a plan how the building can be safely removed and should have one by end of week – I am told there was a downstairs suite – which would make using backhoes etc dangerous--- presently sidewalk covered with glass etc

It ain’t going to be easy – the reason Hays Creek chosen originally was that it is ‘easy’ access’ to the ocean – above I was told the fellows were checking out the current sewer lines --- presumably ‘communicating’ with the fellows at yellow arrow (below) to see how sound that sewer line ----- I was told will take a pumping station (Yellow arrow above??) and then pumped up 9th Avenue where can be gravity fed to Petrocan area etc – more later – I am told routes not chosen yet --- I suggest that may be a good time to look at longer view – like when if treatment will take place etc

Replacing the Hays Creek Sewer line --- it runs along the stream bed --- and DFO wants it removed – the whole project is on order of 5M$ -- more later

Local Kids ‘artwork’ removed

Last night the crayons covered the sidewalk – today much of it removed --- it has been suggested that these plywood panels might make a good easel for the kids art work in a more controlled exhibit of their skills

Signs of the season

The salmonberry bush was unusually productive --- the fellow picking said down along the seashore he had also found good berries --- had 3 gallons worth of buckets so it will be along day for him

Kids liked the fountain

Might have been drained by Thursday PM – we’ll see if kids get their pool back again ---
