Council meeting tonight

Stop the Presses!! --- Another era ending

And as if commentary on state of PR – becoming a zoo?

Word on the street

Some claim taxes not paid last year – and now not this one either --- so soon we will have a pulp mill and a casino? Place your bets, citizens

City Council meeting tonight

There is the statutory opportunity to comment on the 2009 Annual Report --- but as these are almost copies of last years – few ever bother (to even read it?)

And as usual Council meets at 5PM (to eat dinner?) --- Contrast with Terrace where 15 minutes at beginning of meeting given to in-camera stuff---- of course there is the Watson Island etc --- but this council has made the dinner date a ‘custom’ --- presumably that is why so little happens at public meeting – everything already discussed and decided

Profound implications as tax burden shifted to residential (it becomes a matter of equity) --- As local elite fund themselves with no overall vision of what is to be accomplished and at what costs etc

See excellent PG report on revitalization (PDF link from this PG page)

More later

This proposed Bylaw has profound implications

I find it weak in many aspects –

·         no longer ‘downtown’ revitalization

·         plus not clear who decides – though presumably staff

·         No limits placed on total $$$ (thus transfer tax burden to residential)

·        Just make up a figure for how much invested?

This one could be interesting – superficially tries to tie into cost of policing etc

This fellow particularly ‘dangerous’ coming up behind me while I was on sidewalk and barely missing etc

Summer and Kids

No helmets, no sense of ‘rules of the road’ these kids were previously on street etc --- Terrace council was recently asked for some sort of helmet bylaw for bikers and skateboarders etc --- ‘for the kids own good’ --- would be great to see local RCMP doing bike patrols again

Local window cleaners ‘beautification’

City Hall almost looked like it had been repainted – but just given a good brushing --- as seen below at Herby’s

Infrastructure

While we give cheap passes to city staff at Civic Center – and free passage to everyone but ‘aircraft passengers’ on airport ferry --- the infrastructure continues to degrade --- this hole in cross walk could easily break a pedestrians toes etc – almost did mine when it was filled with water a week ago
