Poverty & ‘Rules’

The clearer but colder nights bring spectacular sunsets

What’s behind the Vandalism: poverty & drugs

All those empty shopping carts thrown over the side near the bottle depot some how emblematic of ‘our’ (Campbell Liberals) collective approach to poverty --- rather than dealing with the problem we ‘give’ a pittance in welfare

Thus we get able bodied men ‘diving’ for bottles --- and we collectively get shopping carts worth 75$+ being trashed to collect a few dollars on bottle returns

Furniture stored in old Empress and then brought to show room – or unloaded from trucks etc

Since done here why not allow any ‘new’ downtown business the same option? ---

New Zoning Bylaws – off street parking and loading

This would be illegal under the current zoning bylaw – should have had loading in alley – so I checked up on it --- I was told done in August – and new zoning did not come into effect until November

My primary issue here is that because it was allowed ‘under the old bylaw’ (and not a perk of PR elites) the implication is that off street loading (and parking) was ‘new’ --- but that was never highlighted in public meetings I attended --- the issue was more do you want trees on 3rd Avenue, or what motif for the facades etc

An expired collective agreement is online --- so interesting to compare it with what will come out of latest contract talks – reputedly company demanding wage roll backs etc

I hear

There are ‘unfair labour practices allegations’ before the BC Labour Relations Board which will be dealt with by the ‘end of the month’ --- a strike vote has been taken – but seems all agree to wait until Board makes a decision --- in meanwhile now getting some bread etc but other perishables not being stocked

I hear --- Merchants know who Vandals are

According to one downtown Merchant – many of the window breakings late at night are not by local kids nor the Bar Crowd – but a single individual in his mid 30s --- but court system quickly releases him so no punishment – ditto another individual who does ‘most’ the local shop lifting/ robbery --- almost with impunity because given such short sentences/ case dismissed etc even though a chronic offender

See current PR court list and recently completed cases as PDF

See my previous for more detailed discussion Khutz presentation

Biological suggestions not followed

I will return to this but the biologists seemed to argue that need ‘temporal and spatial’ refugia from the bear viewers – meant for shyer and more sensitive individuals --- thus all the best sedge meadows used in critical May June period are subject to ‘viewing’ --- a more ‘bears first’ approach would have been to make North side of inlet (for example) off limits to tourism etc – more later

3 modes of transportation

Short history PR here – (abandoned – for now) train station in forefront --- a pilot sip in mid ground and a (grain?) freighter behind
