So how many parking
spots ‘Grandfathered’ if/ when these now vacant properties
developed---Council (following staff’s recommendation) said none – treat as
new development (#1 below)– The downside is making City Core into a shopping
mall |
|
Should
downtown be treated same as a mall in suburbs?
Developing
downtown Prince Rupert |

More on this
later |
|
|
As these
businesses ‘empty’ when bylaw passed – treated as new |
Grandfathering
and New DPA etc |
|
So if anyone wants to
open up this old restaurant (2) or put offices into old RCMP building (1) –
or even a new business in Highliner –(which I am told has 94 hotel rooms and
30 apartments + all those businesses) will have to provide off-street parking
do you really think the Highliner presently has 130 parking spots? |

|
How many
dedicated parking spots does City Hall have? |
And how many
parking spots does City Hall have? |
|
My point is the
present Official Community Plan prides itself on reducing complex planning
documents to very few categories --- this ‘one size fits all’ approach may
not be in Rupert’s best interest – thus a 3rd Ave snack bar does
not need same parking as a MacDonald’s out on highway |
|
Above
includes ‘partnering agreement’ which is different from Council grants |
So how much
$$ will Golf Course Club get from City in 2010 |
|
At
Council meeting ‘they’ made a point in discussion of library grant that everyone
had to feel the pain of cuts this year – and the golf course was brought up
several times as only getting $72,500 grant this year --- but a careful
reading of material could be interpreted as them getting more than requested |
|
I asked about
this at City Hall but those I asked were of opinion City had cut Grant from
120T to $72,500 – More later |
|
|
From
the background material in Council agenda package
So how much
are we paying to 200 member golf club? |
|
|
Parking? After thought
|
|
I suspect
the mall (both malls?) would not even have sufficient parking spaces to meet
present parking bylaw --- but that is what happens when apply horse and buggy
development concepts to ‘Green/ Sustainable’ rhetoric |
