Second look at Council meeting -- & SQCRD

Here mainly the Development Variance Permit

Image left shows the proponents and the City planner – the latter is giving his presentation for why the accessory Building permit should be denied

Red line shows the height of accessory building (garage/ work shop)—and figure right provided by City Staff shows the acceptable heights in comparison—along with the acceptable areas (foot print)

Good presentation by both Proponent and Planner on why or why not to accept the Variance

Ultimately it was the ‘Rural-ness’ of location that seemed to sway most Councillors to acceptability of garage/ accessory building

Note how McNicholl street has not been yet developed and property has to be approached by a ‘lane’ (arrow) rather than a real street

Gordon Payne asked if the boats etc she had seen from 11th Avenue were his – turns out to belong to someone else – but it did high light the problem – to both get them indoors for protection and aesthetics

I asked about the ‘free usage’ of Civic Center facilities by all City Staff

While taxpayers put in 3.9M$ into recreation --- most people are excluded from using the facilities because of high price --- true they could be given charity to attend – but the facility is paid for by property taxes – which we all pay --- brought an interesting discussion which I will document later in week

SQCRD

Tasu mine site to be opened again to remove the aggregate etc

See Wikimapia – with  Tasu blog And BC Minfile for the geology and mining history etc --- Here is the ILMB application on line with maps

This is from the ILMB site – where online map gives detailed map of requested leases etc

The 1995 OCP is still a good source for background etc on Moresby Island – from which the map below taken --- there was little mention of the archaeological sites at SQCRD meeting – they were more interested if the ‘Development Permit Area’ designation would allow them some leverage in suggesting jobs should go to locals first

-- Map below right was in Agenda paperwork and derived from Google maps – map left from Moresby Island OCP PDF

More later

SQCRD budget

Not ready for presentation at last meeting – so will have special meetings (including ones on QCIs) when budget finished and before the next full meeting where has to be given final reading and acceptance as per legislation deadlines
