Council meeting

·         Rupert Heritage (all 100 years of it) and new booklet

·         Variance Permit allowed over staff recommendation

·         Local Elites support their own—‘Partnering’ with Golf Club

·         But argue ‘hard times’ for Hobiyee

·         Resolutions to NCLGA had good inputs

·        SPCA late item fails – more later

Walking Tour

A walking tour booklet that will highlight local architecture history etc and will sell for about 15$ --- proceeds to help re-roof #1 Pilsbury Place where the shake shingle roof will cost up to 40T$ --- Thorkelson made a good suggestion to break the booklet into smaller (and cheaper) pamphlets that could be purchased by the cruise ship – who might only want to ‘tour’ one area of town etc

Over ride staff on shed dimensions

I will return to this as both the planner and the proponent had good presentations as to why and why not the storage shed/ garage should be built --- it was the ‘rural character’ of property that seemed to sway the day – more later

Subsidizing the elites Rupert style

This is merely a loan guarantee for 3 years of $40T to purchase 2nd hand equipment – I have pasted the rationale from the Agenda package --- I am dubious the criteria met --- is it a city function to provide golfing equipment to a private club?? – More later

Valerie Stewart and Ms Haines requested donation to cover the Civic Center costs for Hobiyee 2010 which was transferred to Rupert last November when realized that the Kinkolith Hall would not be ready in time for celebration--- Council continued with its ‘poor is us’ theme and offered 2T$ – more later

Some good discussions

Here is there web site ---- Council had several suggestions – Thorkelson arguing commercial fishing economics trumped up-river ‘sports’ to some thoughtful suggestions by Bedard and Ashley – more later

I hear a near riot here last Saturday night when bars shut down 2:30 AM

Large crowd and people fighting – but police were able to restore order

With a system moving in Monday night – the exceptional period of clear weather over
