these examples are signs of decline – true the fellow obstructing the
sidewalk did construct it with cedar from Oona River ---but if he can use
public property ‘rent free’ – so can the pellet stove business on 3rd
Avenue --

Our
City Council’s resolution to not subsidize the golf course (or rather to
subsidize it less) speaks to how Rupert has tried to maintain its amenities
and services – hoping for return to the Boom Bust cycle of post WW2 resource
extraction economy --- the complaint by local hoteliers that they are paying
for ‘Sewage’ that is another name for a ‘tax grab’ or cash cow – again speaks
to how PR (and Terrace etc?) have used the $$ for infrastructure maintenance
etc to maintain amenities’ while the pipes etc continue to degrade --- it is
popular approach --- but ultimately self defeating --- comparisons later in
week |

are annual weeds growing in a ‘street planter’ on 2nd Avenue – they
have grown sufficiently to flower – as have several ornamentals see along
walks – more later |
