We See SNOW

Where is the rain now that we need it?

In-between weather – with freezing line moving up and down mountain almost daily

Over the next few days I will review 2010 – mainly from a City Council perspective --- but also from regional and historical dimensions – I will suggest the (presumed) extension of Gordon Howie contract for another 2 years is the symbol for 2010—more marking time, waiting for ‘next boom’, than creating our own future – Contrast too with CTR below

Submitted image showing newly constructed pad at CN RR yard – for stuffing containers with logs to send to China? – More later on China connection etc

Behind all the ‘stories’ is the economy – US market still in decline ---and Chinese one expanding rapidly

Perhaps regionally the top economic story is the success of Lax Kw'alaams’ Coast Tsimshian Resources which in this V SUN story are handing out over $330,000 in dividends to band members – Using the old Skeena Cellulose timber rights they are cutting near 750T cubic meters this year ---- Here is their accepting BC Aboriginal Business 2010 Award for Community Owned Business

While I wrote earlier of this presentation, I suggest the excellent R Grodecki minutes of the December 13th meeting on the City site be read

‘Killbery’, isn’t that name familiar?

At left Mrs. Killbery speaks to Council asking for $6,000 Halloween Fest grant etc ---- An acquaintance who was a long time school board trustee said the irony of these ‘public’ budget discussions was that only the little stuff gets close scrutiny while the major items just move through unheeded --- Thus our City Council minutely dissects Enhancement Grants while we never once hear of the RCMP Budget (4.15M), nor Fire (2.01M$), nor Airport Ferry (1.8M$ - fares (750T through October) etc

The full Revenue and Expenditures Report for October is in Dec 13th Agenda Package

This is taken from Rodin’s (October) Financial Report given Council December 13th meeting

Of the budgeted 1.58M$ ‘Grants’ only 93T$ of it for Community Enhancement --- thus Golf Course’s  (80T$ superintendent wages + 40T$ equipment grants) not included --- the strategy of using (‘independent’) Airport Society and Golf Course Society etc to (hide?) expenses will also be delved into later this week

Here the eclipse just beginning --- note the clouds at center image --- but most the time the moon was fully visible –arrow at middle image is early eclipsing

David Cook image when in ‘orange ball’ phase after eclipse

Some images from Solstice and lunar eclipse --

We See

McDonalds Restaurant will be closing in early January for major renovations --- I hear will cost up to 1M$ and hoping to get it all done in a week or two

We See Flowers --- December 24th

Presumably the rock cliff face helps hold heat etc ‘tricking’ the flower to bloom

We See JPR Mart moving

But only down Third to a new store front
