First look at Council meeting

Long but significant

A little humour with Thorkelson & Gordon-Payne switching chairs

Alarm bells ringing

Council seems to be doing the Budget – and looking for more $$$ --- so raise the service fees

Northern View has already covered the 5%/ yr solid waste increases --- but beware of sewage/ water (see below)

Here is the group from the Lester Center

I will cover their $$ request later in the week --- note Thorkelson --- wearing a sweater ---complains about the cold on her side of room – So Gordon Payne switches seats ---see below

Looking for ‘fairness’ --- or a snow job? --- see my earlier for these hoteliers’ complaints --- And earlier still where Thorkelson tries to redistribute hoteliers’ sewerage expenses among them  – they reject – the complainers want a bigger subsidy from tax payers in name of ‘fairness’ (water in = water out)

Here is the main issue from meeting --- addressing water/ sewer fees --- from hoteliers perspective

One can see where this is going – using ‘ratio’ of sewage to water fees --- the latter metered ---- and arguing thus ‘over paying’ for sewer --- the City’s supporting argument seems to agree BUT

I will come back to this later --- I have used the 450m3 which is BC average residential consumption per person with 2.5 average ‘household’ in PR (using Rodin’s research for both)

Commercial already paying a very low water rate when metered

As I remember it, the low rate (0.61/m3) was to induce business/ industrial to switch to metered readings from flat rates --- If residential were paying at 61c per cubic meter then should only be paying about 250$ and not the current flat rate of 348$

While the Sewer/ Water report preliminary --- we can see the outline of where it is going ---- But there is still time to change the direction

Here is Thorkelson in the warmer chair

Note above image that she did give Gordon-Payne the use of her sweater

Above is the train --- and image right to show the parking lot full of cars --- Others explained to me later what was going on --- here I though they might be changing station back to downtown --- which would be a tourism  ‘winner’

Kids get ride on Via passenger train down at RR station

And we see

Looks like digging and putting in the sewage pipe down at Hayes Creek and skateboard park --- but note the silty water coming in to creek in photo below --- looks to be coming from another work site --- the arrow shows a fence’ to keep dirt our of stream etc

New Women’s store opening

Down beside Sea Sport --- we hear the ‘grand opening’ will be in new year --- now just taking advantage of the Christmas shopping etc

All those trucks

There were three of them all in a row --- shows good use of Container facility – but maybe they should try to space out the trucks better
