We See

Global warming to Enbridge

Ironically for today’s theme we see an Indian ship the Maha Aarti in the port to get a cargo of wheat. Given the Monsoon rains in Pakistan with extensive loss of life and agriculture crops – wheat looks to be a very scarce commodity with soaring prices etc

Link to provincial ‘Drought’ site where our area rated 3 of 4 (in July)

Wild fire site: http://bcwildfire.ca/

Speaking of global warming – some descry our rainy weather after long stretch of sunshine BUT

See advisory full text

BC was recently warning of low river flows --- so what? Well with returning salmon swimming upstream high water temperatures (shallow water) increases chances of diseases etc

Record low waters being approached

Images again from Federal/ Provincial site – here all Pacific BC waters

BC Overview map

This was an El Nino year and lower rainfalls and locally rainy rather than snowy – plus warmer spring melted off the snow pack up stream earlier

Image left source

Other BC signs of global warming is the Pine beetle infestation etc

This graphic is for water levels as opposed to ‘discharge’ volume --- see the real time water data for Pacific NW (above)

I have numerous articles on Skeena river at this time of year:-- see especially last strong El Nino page 2005-2006--- And 2007 which has links to previous

Enbridge pipeline --- And Tanker traffic off the North Coast

I have looked at Enbridge as a threat to our salmon streams in Skeena Watershed – and will return to topic later – today I want to emphasize the ‘danger’ from tanker traffic --- while earlier public relations emphasized a pilot station at mouth of Douglas Channel etc – the Enbridge Pipeline main menu site on the CEAA web site appears to go back to the original plan (pilot boarding at Triple and following Principe Channel to Douglas fjord). This becomes an especial problem for Kitkatla (as left from Google maps). Threat of spills to just the increased wash and traffic from traditional food beaches etc

in light of the Michigan spill

Thus note all the ‘new’ buoys etc in Principe (and Douglas) that Enbridge sees as now required for safety --- Note even the southern pilot boarding sees having to use Principe during ‘rough weather’

Note too the arrow which is also relatively ‘new’ --- thus the most dangerous mountain areas will be avoided by tunnelling through them – which I suspect will present its own problems

Tunnels

Hoult and Clore tunnels --- map left presents also a few of the alternative routes looked at – more later

When will deer (bucks) cause an injury? – Kids potentially vulnerable

The buck (at the arrow) was feeling his testosterone as I tried to pass going downtown on 2nd West.

As I approached he chose not to ‘yield’ – looking at me belligerently and ‘saying’ I was here first. It was only when I took my (short) club like umbrella out of my back pack and carried it like a club that the buck backed off (reconsidered?) and let me pass

Dandelion like head of common weed at this time year

More Aster type flowers

Flower and seed are used for diagnosis --- note this flower ‘closed’ at night even after I had picked it and taken it home – opening the next morning etc

By your seed you shall be known

I will return to this but note difference to say Dandelion where there is a stalk before the plume area etc – where here ‘plume’ directly to seed

See previous Aster family  in summer look with links

So characteristic of the Rupert view scape --- seeing a freighter ‘parked’ at end of street etc
