Council Meeting

Productive—but 4+ hours?

Oh ya, now Bedard worried about lines on highway in her drive into Rupert– every meeting we hear another one

New faces show up to interact with Council --- And their concerns heard before the more mundane staff presentations of Budgets and Official Community Plans etc

One questioner even noted the ‘plush’ seats Council uses – while mere plebes sit on wooden benches (one side does have cushions)

Committee of Whole questions came from 2 business owners about youth and downtown vandalism—Plus a suggestion by Joe Viscount to re-start the Recreation Committee to give citizens more role --- And Charlotte Rowse needs help cleaning up show windows in vacant stores 3rd Avenue so art work can be displayed --- All these were most significant part of meeting and will be dealt with tomorrow

First The COW meeting

Note there was an in-camera meeting afterwards that was not part of original agenda, nor the additions --- while question its legality – I suspect it was to get questions answered that came up during the meeting (More later)

Before going into the questions – here is a quick overview from the agenda

Budget and changes made to different fees schedules was the main time consumer – more later

Later

Interesting discussions about Airport Ferry, City Transit and Recreation facility

Note the Community Gardens area (yellow arrow)

Note too ‘run down’ ball field

This could be one of more significant ‘events’ over longer term --

A 4plex (at 1426 Kootenay) and a 6plex (1428—blue square below) Seniors Housing were given Development Permits ---
---- significant was the modular design of buildings – more later

Mavi Innovations (tidal power) been to Council last November  – this time need Council OK to look at setting up equipment at Watson Island – where could ‘heat’ mill etc – required because proximity mill’s infrastructure extending from shore – as in figure below – see my earlier on Watson Isl

Seal Cove Airport Society?

While the question was routine – this group (which ‘runs’ Seaplane base facilities for City—yes we own the land etc) has not been heard of in years (see my 2006 story) and all the same questions remain—who is looking after City Interests? See my present uses circa 2006 for overview

Booze and Rundown 3rd Avenue etc

Left is a ‘good news’ story – yes the fellow was drunk --- some family members were trying to get him home, they told me– but the RCMP officer stopped and offered to take him home for them --- good for RCMP

More later on clean-up and Bylaws etc

While some repair – 3rd Avenue etc still looking like a LA Slum according to some
