September 29th

Tax Day ---

Will City own a pulp mill at 4:30 pm today??

Still partially blocked but some make it up – to be intercepted by kids – see below

Tax Sales

I hear 11 of the 14 properties up for tax sales were ‘purchased’ --- the remaining properties managed to pay off their 2008 taxes (for example 519 3rd W). The delinquent property owner has 1 year to pay-up --- and if they do the ‘purchaser’ gets their money back with 5% interest --- which is better than a GIC (more later)

As I understand it September 29th at 4:30 pm is the last chance those owing taxes from 2008 have to pay up – thus the pulp mill will revert to City ownership at that time if the 8(?)M$ not paid

Keeping Healthy

I hear the Civic Center wanted 400$ rental to have the one(?) day flu shots session here ---thus chose to go to an alternate and cheaper site in one of the malls --- this is same Civic Center that allows RCMP, and City staff free use of facilities to promote healthfulness (see here and my links)

We See --- truck loads of new Furniture arriving for store opening--- and fill for new liquor store parking lot

We See – Kids catching returning (coho?) salmon at Moresby Pond

We See Fall fungi and mushrooms

There are perhaps 3 species in this patch --- One year I ended up in Emergency after trying to ID mushrooms --- seems the spores can be toxic as trying to eat the thalli

See my 2007 where curfews and cameras suggested as ‘solutions’ for vandalism

Continuing theme of vandalism – and lack of law enforcement

We avert our eyes to ‘stolen’ shopping carts to carry bottles scavenged off streets and garbage bins (previous – scroll down) --- to broken windows and kicked in glass – Vandalism? Who cares? More later (see my previous and look at ‘crime stats’ w links
