Vandalism, Youth and ‘gated communities’

What is the problem?

Galaxy Gardens protects itself --- to me this is the rational response of individuals when ‘community’ fails – goes into decline  --- I will argue below that Rupert’s elites have done much the same

Mike, a fellow that has to use a cane to walk, told me he was recently knocked down by one of these skate boarders --- passer-bys helped him & confiscated the skate board

Who does the downtown vandalism? I heard one ‘committee’ struck to ‘solve’ the youth/ vandalism/ drugs question decided these were 3 separate issues – that the ‘Bar Crowd’ caused most these broken windows --- and that the bar owners were ‘not interested’ in meetings to discuss the issue with the committee  --- More later

Forms of gated communities

Here the outdoor gym being built – I will argue later the response to perceived youth and vandalism problems by Civic Center has been to use $$ as a means of excluding trouble makers (along with RCMP free use of facilities etc—see here and scroll down this page ) --- I hear that the ‘everyone gets to play’ program is means tested (‘hey kid, prove to me you are poor’)– or given as charity by RCMP, etc to deserving youth --- I will try to follow up on this later

I see lots of school kids on field trips and ‘classes’ – presumably watching the return of coho salmon – both out at the ‘hatchery’ and at the fish ladder

Salmon Celebration

The people who let their dog crap on downtown streets and walk away (note the ‘bylaw’ has no fines attached – part of the inertia of Howie regime after Doug Jay released (fired)

I thought maybe the parked car was an elderly person who had poor vision – but I saw a 30ish fellow get out of the car --- which parks this way every day ---- the statement is that my car is more important than any pedestrian might be

Community --- and ‘self’

Canpotex – the options

I will return to this later

These are the slides from Tuesday night’s presentation ---

In 2008 they were talking about doing both the Vancouver expansion and the greenfield Ridley Island options

What have these people got to Hide? I hear they will not even provide financial statements etc to their own Council with Chief Administrative Officer Ron Bedard suggesting the Council member file an FOI

Who is the Harbour Authority? – A private club? Funded by tax payers?

Curiouser and curiouser--- note Port Ed Mayor claimed at last weeks council meeting that We (District of Port Ed? He himself?) ‘are at arm’s length of the Harbour Authority’. See PRDN story)

I have seen an unsigned copy of Harbour Authority ‘Articles ’ of Corporation in where article 5.2 states:
Within a year following the issue of letters patent, the First Members shall obtain seven nominations for membership in the Corporation from the Council of the District of Port Edward including at least two nominees representative of groups or organizations whose members make regular use of the port. Upon obtaining a list of seven nominees, the First Members shall appoint the nominees as members and thereupon the First Members shall resign, unless the name of any First Member be submitted by the District of Port Edward as nominee.

And everyone subsequently will be appointed by District:

6.6 The directors other than the first directors shall be nominated by the Council of the District of Port Edward who have become members in accordance with Part 5

Note too I have it on good sources PR asked for 2 members to be appointed – presumably representing local users --- that was months ago – And how much money des this ‘private club get from DFO?? --- More later
