While there was
some ‘debate’ with implications for role of Council – I will return to it
another day --- here Sister City theme continued with Owase Japan |
|
|
Owase Japan |
|
If
sign on Kazu Maru Memorial correct, then Owase has been Prince Rupert’s
‘sister city’ since 1960s --- |

|
Kazu
Maru (now located in Mariners’ Park) was found on West side QCIs in March
1987--- as sign says the amazing ‘co-incidence’ is that ’25 years previously’
Owase (where ship originated) was made sister city to Prince Rupert --- |

Province
has published yearly policing stats (227K PDF) |
|
Rupert
has the distinction of replacing Smithers as the ‘Crime leader’ regionally Below
left I use number of vandalism offences (reported) – and below right I
compute the rate based upon population – thus making the different sized
municipalities more comparable See my 2006 previous |

Playing with
Weather stats |

Hard
to remember one year’s August to the next --- the surprise is the real wet
year was August 2008 and the driest in series was 2007 (if the numbers can be
trusted) Source

This
year is another El Nino – which surprisingly is supported by the monthly average
temperatures (as to left) While
2008 looked fairly average – 2005 was another strong El Nino year I
did not (so far) pull out the 2007 averages to see if it was also as strong
an El Nino as rainfall implies (Source
