Council Meeting – part 2

While there was some ‘debate’ with implications for role of Council – I will return to it another day --- here Sister City theme continued with Owase Japan

Owase Japan

If sign on Kazu Maru Memorial correct, then Owase has been Prince Rupert’s ‘sister city’ since 1960s ---

See Wikipedia article

Kazu Maru (now located in Mariners’ Park) was found on West side QCIs in March 1987--- as sign says the amazing ‘co-incidence’ is that ’25 years previously’ Owase (where ship originated) was made sister city to Prince Rupert ---

Province has published yearly policing stats (227K PDF)

Rupert has the distinction of replacing Smithers as the ‘Crime leader’ regionally

Below left I use number of vandalism offences (reported) – and below right I compute the rate based upon population – thus making the different sized municipalities more comparable

See my 2006 previous

Playing with Weather stats

Hard to remember one year’s August to the next --- the surprise is the real wet year was August 2008 and the driest in series was 2007 (if the numbers can be trusted)

More playing with numbers

This year is another El Nino – which surprisingly is supported by the monthly average temperatures (as to left)

While 2008 looked fairly average – 2005 was another strong El Nino year

I did not (so far) pull out the 2007 averages to see if it was also as strong an El Nino as rainfall implies (Source Data)
