We See from

SQCRD part 1 to CF to 350

Friday night’s SQCRD meeting --- Perhaps the items rushed through are the most significant to those of us who end up paying the bills --- Here I will look at the financial aspects, with some land use

·        First look at the cheques over 5T$
note what’s missing

·        Province warns SQCRD about lack of balanced budget
mainly Islands Dump but mostly ignored

·        Cell phone policy—or lack of one?
Abusing privilege?

Intnl Climate Action day at NWCC
from lectures to music to green wash

Just a sampling

Most are QCI

Note August garbage collection cost 4X more than July’s

Most these expenses tied up with land fill on QCIs—which (in theory) paid for totally by Islanders

Glossed over

These are excerpts from the letter --- my impression was not taken seriously – jokes about Provincial deficit etc

Just a reminder from Inspector of Municipalities

Many of these shortfalls due to unforeseen expenses on QCI dump

Running a deficit --- either increase taxes/ revenues – or reduce services

Funny – at Friday meeting I suggested SQCRD should get out of Island Waste --- met with well ‘contempt’ by chair etc

Island Waste continues to be a mess –note this Observer article from 2008 where poor management at distance blamed for poor financial performance of Island Waste (lost about 125T in 2008)

It is only Taxpayer $$$

Speaking of the Chair and potential abuses of taxpayer credulity

Keeping track of personal calls deemed too onerous

Informally this has come up before – freebie being abused

Port Ed very generous --

We (Rupert)  taxpayers are so generous --

But don’t require that it be for SQCRD purposes???!!!

International Day of Climate Action

350 meeting at NWCC was October 24, 11:00 am - 4:00 pm

Thorkelson gave one of the more detailed talks on the work city has done toward green initiatives – like promising cutting GHG emissions by 10% -- more later --- Green Wash anyone?

Ukraine students in PR gave a spirited fold song in their native language to assembled audience

More later

Cat looked like it wanted to ‘hunt’ the fawn
