But
the talk after the meeting was more interesting --- thus almost confirmed
that Kitkatla has bought Rona’s (full confirmation will depend on interview
with Band Manager etc) |
|
|
And
yes it looks like the work on Spirit Square is commencing --- that is a
backhoe in distance digging up old concrete platform What about Watson Island?? Council
was pretty down in dumps about future finances --- plus what will be the
effect of Lax Kwalaams new chiefand council on presumed bid for Watson ---
even supposing the City can meet the ‘Subject to’ clauses of the rumoured
bid? |
|
|
OH Ya
Council did meet |
|
But
none of the agenda delegations showed up etc |
|

Calvin
Thompson has questions |
|
Questions
centered on the long term and short term provisions of services to Rupert
Citizens --- needless to say he was told status quo will continue – next question?

Joy
Thorkelson provides most info |
|
After council
dutifully asking Feds for a judicial enquiry for Skeena River salmon fishery
and Enbridge pipeline/ oil tanker shipping etc Thorkelson mentioned that
latest info was that this years poor sockeye run was because disease in
Babine – that DFO science budget cut backs have removed 2 of the 3 Counting fences
(adults in, still but fry into lake and then smolt out migrations no longer
monitored – so no warning when disease decimates lake stage – as can be
expected more often with global warming and increased drought/ summer water
temperatures etc |
|
|
This was probably the most
informative info at meeting
|
|
I
will return to this later with more analysis Looks
like City suggesting that may be 25% or greater decrease from 2009 grant –
but does not offer us any look at why some of these are getting our $$ thus
Golf Course – Racquet club etc |
