Council Meeting

November 9th

Special interests set the agenda

·        Cow Bay Parking ‘main event’

·        Tidal Power looks to future of energy

·        Budget changes glossed over as insignificant BUT

Here is the Future calling

Contrast those special interests wishing to have public pay for their parking harkening back to a ‘horseless carriage’ past and the Mavi Innovations’ presentation which looks to the future where Rupert could play a key role when energy no longer has a ‘carbon footprint’

This generates the electricity

Below is the catamaran concept for Butze Rapids

Interesting web site – but little more than what was given at presentation http://www.mavi-innovations.ca/

More Later

Amending the Five Year Financial Plan and ‘transparency’

I will argue later that this was the most significant part of the Council meeting from mere Citizen’s perspective --- while it was presented as a formality – the details were damning and un-discussed – thus Roads’ Budget slashed while 1.2M$ planned for 2010 Watson Island maintenance ---

Argued they are losing business – and poor staff can’t find a place to park etc – and it is all due to Pay Parking --- more later

The irony of all this is captured by the sign—the rates are what Council passed in its bylaw – but the times were to be from 9-5 – which is not mentioned on sign and would have ‘solved’ many of the problems if had been implemented

More Later

I will go into more detail later – note that in last July vote Ashley was the deciding vote as Mussallem and Bedard were both absent – This time Bedard was present by phone – and Mussallem broke the 3 to 3 tie giving the gallery what they wanted --- No politician wanting to be re-elected would have voted otherwise – given the weak counter arguments put forward etc

I predicted this would happen

See my September 2007 entry where I predict Cow Bay Merchants as special interests would set agenda—note links at bottom that page

November 6th entry on this topic with links

And see the March 2007 where unpaved Atlin etc before we ‘invested’ in it
