Barge leaking diesel Pilsbury Cove 2008

Containment booms at yellow and black arrows --- but much diesel escaping

Metlakatla Fisheries presentation

Have been monitoring this diesel oil spill site at Pilsbury Cove across harbour from PR --- the loaded barge (Swiftsure Prince) owned by Sea-Link Marine Services Ltd. was damaged off QCIs in spring 2008, then towed to PR harbour by Burrard Clean (harbour is a registered ‘Port of Refuge’)--- as can be seen in fly over photo the containment booms (yellow and black arrows) have been set up – still most the diesel oil is escaping into the environment --- Metlakatla presently conducting monitoring etc to see how badly site contaminated --- Pilsbury Cove considered reserve lands, but same kind of thing routinely happens in PR Harbour --- (damaged ships leaking fuel etc) --- with unknown consequences to environment

As outlined before the ‘main event’ at Council meeting was Cow Bay Merchants getting Atlin terminal parking free during the off season – and only pay between 9-5 in tourist season (with first 2 hours free)

Four ‘options’ were offered by staff in report to Council (image right) --- Garon immediately moved option 4: 9-5 during week days—to which she amended the first 2 hours free

Thorkelson put up the best response (‘unfair to downtown merchants who have no free parking lots etc) --- but Mussallem sided with Garon breaking the 3-3 tie vote etc

Garon out manoeuvres Council to get Freebie for Cow bay merchants

Will redo this image Thursday

As I have previously pointed out --- staff had not followed the July 27th resolution --- but had implemented pay parking 24/7 as sign at left – thus ‘fuelling’ the wrath of Cow Bay merchants

City Amended Budget

All is not bad news – many of the services etc are bringing in more money than was expected --- thus below the Airport Ferry revenue is projected to be 39T$ more than budget predicted – similar with transit fares etc – more later
