May 25th Council meeting

Preliminary look at meeting

For once we saw some actual debate

The question of parking fees at Atlin terminal provoked some heated ‘debate’ – I will return to this tomorrow

Motion defeated – Garon, Ashley, Kinney and Mussallem voting against

Garon found sufficient support for her contention that 2 hours ‘free parking’ had been promised (by whom to whom?) – speaks to how things are done in this town More on Atlin parking later

Koning Good bye

Council again thanked HK for her help – Bedard doing the farewell as Mussallem said he did not feel comfortable with this sort of thing and preferred saying his farewells in private conversation

A 12m x 12m section of Kootenany field allowed to be used ---more later

This is one to watch

I consider this one of the highlights of the meeting – how a group of volunteers trying to refurbish a senior citizens house – and going well beyond appearances etc – more later

The 2nd high point was the presentation by Christine Anonuevo (Spanish for ‘new year’) she remarked

Not that the power point presentation was riveting – but more as to how her project reaching out to an often overlooked segment of PR Society – More later

The COW agenda package is more informative about response to Corrina Morhart query last meeting about expense keeping landfill open on Sundays for those low income people who work than what happened during meeting where 1% rate of total dumped given as rationale – not numbers of users etc

Different map but same presentation as at SQCRD – with same result – letter to be sent – more later
