March 22nd

Council Mtg Monday night

3 presentations

Here is the Bike to Work web site

At least with presentations there will be something done in open meeting

Presumably the Budget requires all this secrecy – but we used to have these discussions in open meetings

Feb was used to discuss the previous year spending in prep for Budget

Thus in 2006

And 2008

This was mentioned last Council meeting and now the policy on City Web site ( with Bylaws)

At meeting mentioned that had discussion about different levels of City Recognition --- 1st hard to see what justification for doing in-camera

But more worrisome is ‘low level’ given to Booth award for Valour

2oth Anniversary of Exxon Valdez spill in AK

More on the Thompson Enquiry later – note how history repeats itself --- Back then Enquiry was to judge a Kitimat terminus for oil pipeline from Alberta

Thompson Enquiry 1978

Taken from West Coast Oil Ports Inquiry Statement of Proceedings by Andrew R. Thompson February 1978

Full report as PDF link from this page

Hopefully the snow is over and Spring now here

City seems to have changed its snow cleaning philosophy – and now doing downtown sidewalks itself – (new small snow plow) --- makes friendlier for pedestrians – good move

Snow on Mountain

Able to see all the slides etc of previous years – but here I was picturing the new tower on sky line – presumably not CityWest

Remember Green Apple??

Looks to me like sidewalk sinking – here the wall is bulging below area where most sidewalk most noticeably sinking

These walls are almost a piece of art work – more later on what they replaced

Herring Season??

In years past the town would be buzzing about this time of year as the herring begin to spawn – but the Japanese Yen is not as valuable these days --- plus the herring get shipped to Vancouver to pop for the roe

Reefer Trucks parked around town

I wonder if this fellow is paying any parking fees?

On the other hand some of these lots actually belong to the cannery – so I guess maybe they get free rent

But what logic allows logging trucks free parking??
