Then there is the
problem of Derelict vehicles in Port Clements--all 1100+ of them. Generated
some discussion with Des Nobles suggesting public education and broader
perspective required --- another person spoke of how easy it was to find a
cheap car on special, bring it to Islands, then abandon it when breaks down |

SQCRD meeting
part 2
|

|
|
Mussallem
suggested PR could help – |
|
Presumably
Mussallem believed Rupert had an effective By-law, etc – While problem not as
bad as in 2007 when 755 crushed with
more to go --- I bet could easily fine 50+ derelict cars on municipal streets
etc – and that is not even getting into the private property lots where 3+ See my earlier 2006 before parking meters at
Rushrbrook and along Cow Bay Road – almost begged people to abandon vehicles |

Glasman
resigns |
|
‘Since
a perception of conflict, prudent to concentrate on one thing – thus resign’
– does so via email while meeting in process |
|
From the Audit ---
note Director travel – but also remuneration – must have given themselves a
raise – or perhaps just attended more meetings (is that a criteria?) – It
should be |
Saving Money
at SQCRD |
|
While
some talk of the added tax of 17.5T$ put on peoples of QCIs to help fund
MIEDS --- even to suggested that $$ saved by Islanders staying on QCs and
connecting to meeting via phone patch (as all but Barry Pages had at Friday’s
meeting) might save significant amounts which could be applied elsewhere Still
the topic was shelved until mover (Brad) was present in-person |
|
Public involvement
needed |
Closing Remarks – and Editorial
|
|
Perhaps I was too ‘crude’ to call the SQCRD an ‘old
boys club’--- after all some are actually aged less than 50 and one is female
--- But I was referring
to how decisions seemed to have been made (e.g., give North Pacific Cannery
$$ -- even though contrary to passed resolution) Kulesha calling in
from QCIs and thus not having
attended the pre-meeting conferences over dinner etc appeared to question why
North Pacific still being paid -- -- thus the ‘old boys club’ But the issue still
remains of both the autonomy of MIEDS and the ongoing no brainer where
Museums etc funded by SQCRD every year without discussion – thus Gitwanagak was publicly
wondering how some local governments funded national historic sites while
others claimed outside their jurisdiction etc |
