We See

Spring turning to summer

On photo left 3 young deer downtown checking out the snack food

A few days ago the Sitka Ash trees were brilliant white – Then they lost their petals and started to berry up – shades of brown

Season in Transition – white petals strewn of streets

How City Hall works

Typical example – first Garon objects to setting a parking fee (May 28th meeting) – Her argument was she (and others on parking committee?) ‘promised’ 2 hours free before had to pay at Atlin parking lot --- I am told this ‘promise’ happened at a meeting with one staff member –

I will have to check my recording of the May 28th meeting, but I suggest the minutes (below) are not accurate in sense that intent at time was for matter to come back to Council next meeting

But this being Prince Rupert – I suspect everything was done in-camera – because not even mentioned in public meeting

I suggest discussing it in-camera (or by emails etc) is contrary to Community Charter – more later

SOFI in Agenda Package (Large PDF on City Site)

Arcane but interesting stuff

I will return to this later --- Note here Pond strategy seemed to be to supplement salary with all those trips on ’City Business’ – some see this as smart economic development strategy – (from which fund I have heard the $$ was/ is coming from) --- we’ll see if Mussallem is going to play the same game plan --- in many ways Rupert ‘fault’ for only having a part time mayor – thus incumbent has to be creative to make money from job to survive financially

In Council discussion said to barely enter city property on SW corner --- but legal diagram seems to say the whole building into lot W.20 – which presumably belongs to 516 3rd Avenue also

Encroachment agreement --$100 plus insurance policy etc

Later: City confirms SW corner overlap of about 2 inches --- Agreement required by Banks for financing, etc

Complex property from earlier in town history  -- thus W.20´ belongs to 516 and is 12 feet wide

Note the computer monitors etc --- going to dump (excuse me ‘land fill’)

More later on City Dump and Recycling

Dump problem? – looks to me like ‘Think Green’ means sending electronics to dump etc – I am told City used to randomly make companies dump out what they had in an area where could be seen if including recyclable materials as general refuse ---

A ‘busy’ cruise ship evening in PR --- streets almost deserted

Later: Hole was filled in Friday Morning --- Good job by City Crews

See no evil

I have brought this hole in sidewalk at 2nd and McBride up several times with the City – hole still there – easily ‘fixed’ by just moving that concrete bumper over whole – or even a pole from hole --- but remains a threat to pedestrians – perhaps it is minutely upon the lot and not the street --- did not the City tear down a local restaurant on less grounds ---Perhaps ‘important people’ own the lot – so not to be bothered about mere public pedestrian safety
