EA meeting at Crest for Phase 2 Fairview expansion

Good turn out for a sunny day

  See these sites fore info

CEAA Registry for Fairview Phase 2 with contact links and list of current documents – including funding –

A 9.3 meg PDF of material handed out at meeting entitled "Description of Factors Considered in the Environmental Assessment" from link on this page – Paper copies also available at Library (and City Hall – go figure)

Scoping for the EA

Difficult to figure out what was being included in EA – just the footprint of the new facility – to the harbour – to even out to Brown Passage – latter is where the dredged material and rock etc to be dumped

Lot of material to be removed

One would think that would be used for the fill that required inland – but apparently to be taken out to Triple and dumped – as was the material from Phase 1 in 2007 I am told

Here is area at end of Phase 2

Green outline is area to be filled in for wharfs etc – including a strip along RR tracks and then out to about 120 feet depth

White arrow seems to show an old road (WW2?)

Blue arrow an avalanche creek

Yellow arrow looks like stream or even older slide

See simpler images on PRPA site for context of these higher resolution images here

Birds and wild life studies

These really need attention – deer and black bear chosen for land animals --- hey they live in town don’t they – how is studying them going to show anything?

And for Birds they chose the marbled murrelet and the goshawk --- we see lots of marbled murrelets don’t we?

I like these aerial photos --- showing area where fill needed for RR tracks. Blue arrows show a stream which seems to end (or change) at shorter blue arrow --- the yellow arrow area appears to be an old slide which also broadens out at same height as shorter blue arrow – thus potentially a relict shore line --- white arrow is same (WW2?) road way as in above image

Below is the EA process at public consultation stage – pink arrow – participant funding next – perhaps NWCC will apply

City Council meeting

Note Council item 6F was to endorse a plan by Port to seek 300 Million dollars for Infrastructure project which would go well towards the 585M$ that Phase 2 will cost

More later

Plus City also endorsed giving City Workers freebies at Civic Center – Mussallem & Garon voting against

Note this table is last years ‘results’ – thus about a third of usages by Civic Center staff themselves

Plus in written endorsements of 2 city workers one of whom had 144 and other 72 visits --- which makes one wonder how generally being used --- and I suggest should be taxable benefit – more later where Freebies seen as combating (juvenile) vandalism as rationale for extending , etc
