July 22nd

Stairway to Nowhere

Presumably part of the sprucing up of the park – repainted etc

·         Zoning and Parking

·         Sport fishing or food?

·         Vandalism and Civic Pride

·         Summer means grass in bloom

·         And crab season to begin soon

·        Does Tyee test fishery predict run timing or size? Maybe

New Bus Station – and Parking??

I don’t see any special zoning requirement other than the parking --- will computing parking needs mean that other facilities in building must then declare their dedicated parking? --- airline terminal/ restaurants, offices etc

Food or sport?

OK maybe this fellow from Saskachewan with 3 freezers in pickup and portable power system was here to buy Sockeye from commercial fishers and take back home --- or here to fill up freezers with what he could catch on a ‘sport license’ – your call

Plants pulled from garden clog up city fountain --

Vandalism & Civic Pride

Civic Pride

We see how much local pride goes into the planters etc along 3rd avenue ---- but we often look aside when youth vandalizes either City beds or planters --- A City employee found 5 different sites of vandalism last weekend --- the fountain example may have been the Kindergartners I saw pulling a flower and putting in fountain – still perhaps I should have said something to the non attentive parents

Dactylis glomerata?

Sockeye run seems to be heralded by the grasses going into flower – lasts only a few days and hard to see unless looking

I have not keyed out but looks like common ‘weedy’ Orchard Grass – see E-Flora

Again the Crab season begins

Image is meant to convey how the crab pots are slowly being taken away where stacked along shore

I have several previous pages – but none recent --- this August 2004 has good history of industry

While much older HECATE STRAITS shows grounds etc as does this one along with other spp in Hecate

How well does TYEE test fishery (total to July 17th) predict the seasonal total for test fishery – thus by implication run timing for this 4 year interval --- and again does July 17th cumulative data allow us to predict the final run size? --- Doesn’t look likely from above unless use 1985 1989 (graph right)

More on this later

Playing with numbers from test fishery
