We See

From suspect zoning to ‘good neighbors’

‘Planning’ at its Dumbest??---

Downtown zoning to include all the CN lands

A real wind fall for whomever buys it from CN

Ask Council what it was thinking about – hopefully this was not ‘planned’

I will go into more detail later

The ‘Downtown’ Development Permit Area was modified sometime between its earlier version (above) and July 6th (left) for what is included – both up McBride and farther out Park Avenue – but more significantly all the CN yard was included --- so if passed it will be pre-zoned as downtown commercial – a bonanza for anyone wanting to purchase the property and a very dumb move on the cities part --- Remember the controversy in early 1990s over building the condominiums down there?

Wouldn’t even be any discussion now – just what type of verandas they might have – not if they were to be built etc (more later)

Now we’ll see who buys the property to get an idea if poor planning or very shrewd businessman pulling strings behind scene (not that that would ever happen in PR)

Perhaps they were wanting to only make one trip to dump and the metal pipes would not qualify for recycling rates --- or maybe they just dumped it somewhere along roads

Nice Neighbors – tore down the ‘wall’ beneath their stairs --- and deposited the metal pipes next door to be dealt with by someone else

Summer flowers now already thinking of fall as prepare seeds etc

The light was beautiful on these flowers – but picture colors don’t pay any justice to the different nuances

Harbinger of things to come?

I have earlier put June 2009 into context of last 5 years --- but here is the sleeping elephant in room --- Not only was June 2005 dry it was hottest too (took less hating to keep at room temperature of 18C.

I suspect when global warming again kicks in (we have been in cool phase last few years) – June 2005 will be the new norm for Hecate and North Coast

More Fish Politics at City Council

Joy introduced this for Council support --- idea presumably is to sidetrack the PNCIMA thrust of DFO and get ‘local management’ done by your friendly fishing industry --- who will presumably make their own rules and police themselves

I exaggerate – but deserves more discussion (later) – UFAWU idea is how to get local involvement (control?) of ‘their’ fisheries etc

In the words of PE Trudeau – ‘because fish swim’ --- is again what is wrong with the idea from Ecosystem perspective as opposed to user groups perspective – more later

Here is the real growth industry on North Coast – Alberta Sporties coming to extract fish

Good bye rockfish and halibut etc – it is only a matter of time until local populations wiped out
