Rain clears off – and the clear skies brought in the fog

The 2 pictures were taken within hours of each other

And by the way – I hear SQCRD board members get salary 7,851$ (with electoral areas getting another 1500$) -- plus each paid 150$ per meeting attended – and another 250$ each for every Northern Health board meeting attended (plus travel expenses etc where applicable)

Perhaps my figures may be off a little – but you get the idea

Paying for QC Mayor’s Blue Cross ---while ultimately Board’s decision I have two objections to this --- first does this mean QC staff and Council do not get coverage?

And why should Rupert taxpayers subsidize QC Village’s?? – I compute Rupert pays 2700$ for her coverage (assuming 3500$ as amount)--- a ‘fairer’ arrangement might be to include QC village staff and Council under SQCRD Blue Cross coverage – and then put the cost back to the Village in annual requisition – thus helping staff (insufficient numbers) while having that municipalities taxpayers pay the cost

QCI minutes from January 15th

(provided by SQCRD)

John Holland’s minutes are better than my report of a subsequent talk by CUPE rep Al Gallupe at Friday’s meeting

Note the discussion of a new manager position more elaborate than at Friday meeting

Rupert has private contractors collecting commercial garbage

I checked into the rates paid --- all commercial pay same rates and amounts vary depending upon cash or charge – rates increase on yearly basis

One of short falls is that appears to be no $$$ incentive to both separate garbage and recycle --- note all that cardboard going to dump – and the food in lower left

I note grocery store now using a covered bin – so now no one can take unused food

Needs a cover?????

From Howie Report to Council --- 200T$ for Skateboard park – does this make sense???

Remember when??

Council used to announce who it had put on its committees etc --- When Pond was Mayor he let this slip --- I see Mussallem has sought public applicants for 3 of these committees

When I looked into the Seal Cove Airport Society a few years ago I was told it had not met in years – but it is supposed to set rents for City owned properties in Seal Cove (see my previous for properties etc)  --- but Mussallem will probably get to it next

Note too all these are City appointed – thus should fall under FOI and requirement for open meetings – I suggest

Along similar lines – I am told present Tourism Society is looking at ‘rebranding’ the City – who knows if they will allow mere Citizens to participate – I hear the final recommendation should be done by this summer

Rebranding

Prince Rumor

I hear that an announcement concerning Tsimpsean Access Road is imminent – Preliminary talks being held at City Hall Wednesday, so I was told (but not confirmed by City as of this writing)

Cynics see it as being done by Premier to boost Herb Pond candidacy in the upcoming provincial election

The same Premier who reputedly ‘requested’ no one run against Herb for the nomination
