SQCRD meeting

PR Council – why meet? Nothing on Monday agenda

Mussallem was in fine form at SQCRD meeting Friday – must be deep into City Budget as every item on agenda that requested $$ from Regional District, Jack wanted to know from what fund? What criteria used etc – In truth the City has a much better format for handling grants – when need apply, time lines and what info provided --- At RD every meeting someone is asking for hand outs

First annual Haida Gwaii Film Festival taking place March 6 -8, 2009--- http://www.haidagwaiifilmfestival.org/

  But does it cost $$$?

But when Des Nobles wanted to broaden the scope of what SQCRD does ---Mussallem was asking about the $$ -- and saying no

Thus No PNCIMA monitoring etc

Funny too Jack was against getting involved with PNCIMA because he interpreted it as being driven by ‘very large foundation, their agenda driving the process’ etc (he was referring to Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation http://www.moore.org/) and presumably their Marine Conservation projects http://www.moore.org/marine-conservation.aspx

I hear Jack thinks 1st Nations would buy the building – if so would be a smart move – as contested ownership etc --

Remember Kumar? – He too wanted to increase City income with out cutting back on services --- but he was into actually using that new parking meter down in Cow Bay – or generating Power to sell into Grid

Where as Mussallem talks about selling assets in a ‘Buyers Market’ – thus the SQCRD building badly in need of new roof etc

Last year was about 10% less rain regionally according to Env Canada graphic left – of course the automated weather system at PR airport isn’t working for weeks at a time – so dubious value when add up yearly precipitation

Note too the La Nina 2009 is predicted to last until May or June --- thus the predicted cooler temperatures until then along the coast

Docks being repaired

I see lots of sawdust accumulating in intertidal Cow Bay – expect it would be against the fisheries Act etc

Still no word on who is running the Harbour Authority – other than the ‘City’ administration out at Port Ed

And bridge work progressing

Plus the Offal into ocean deserves another hearing

I will come back to the manning Kwuna Ferry (and PR Ferry?) tomorrow – Here is a media article setting up the problem --- Kwuna to go from 150 to 36 passengers per trip --- ‘so long as it does not cost us anymore $$’ – was the Jack led refrain
