From Fraser River Report to Eagles playing

‘Flow through Charity tax break’

I was told that this policy would not be implemented until a ‘Report’ done --- Jack Mussallem told me the ‘Report’ had been given – though verbally --- (note I suspect the practice is illegal except in very narrow circumstances) – still I hear City is offering ‘tax breaks’ to any group affiliated with City --- more later

SQCRD meeting Friday night

Still too soon to know if T Hesse applied for administrator job as does not close until Feb 23rd

See job description at Deputy Chief Administrative Officer

We See Fraser River basin sustainability report

A significant work –plus a model of what stewardship can be with diverse non ENGO group of Citizens

Fraser Basin Forum releases 4th ‘State of Fraser Report’ here the press release --- here is their web site from which full report may be down loaded

To me the loss of salmon stocks in Fraser while complex is mainly about Climate Change – as both watershed and ocean ‘heat up’ salmon are slowly displaced northward (Bristol Bay etc)

Lots of key ideas in the 9.3 meg and 94 page PDF

Note how Transportation is the main source BC GHG emissions – so much so that insulating ones house etc – would have little effect

Above shows comparison over the different years with almost all peaking in 2004

This graphic from report emphasizes the Industrial plus transportation = 70% BC GHG emissions

‘Survival of fittest?’

I like this – note the deciduous tree (Popular?) is scraping the bark off the cedar tree – at blue arrow

Plus the cedars are not looking very healthy --- ‘leaves’ with greyish cast – (too warm and too dry?)

Eagles ‘playing’ as evening approaches

Here the eagles are mainly ‘resting’ before more aerial displays – presumably they are in from feeding on Eulachon earlier in day

There are about 10-12 eagles flying around and in the tree in picture below

The sunny south side is almost lifeless in upper areas – yellow shows beginning of Fucus zone while the blue arrow points to sewer cover for reference

Either side of sewer outfall

North side with algae –(shade + sewer leaks) – see my earlier for more complete look at outfall a couple years ago – with links

Only in Rupert??

This is from along CN RR tracks – note the ice sickles from water seeping down the cliff form Casino area --- and contrast that cold with the green of ferns etc --- who keep growing all winter
