Council, Hesse. Tides & sidewalks

See Hesse story below

Howie Contract extended --- vote 5-2

At some level they had little choice but to extend the contact as no one else would want to come to Rupert in present financial shape etc --- Kumar was good but too diligent – so need a Howie that does not rock the boat

Relict shore line & Climate Change

Zoning map (below) appears to be showing a shore line from early days of town (blue arrows) --- while not showing well on photo to left that appears to be fill holding up the street --- and presumably many of the buildings all the way up to Seasport appear to be on fill

So if/ when oceans 25 foot higher?

Doesn’t take much of an imagination to ‘see’ this end of town will have to be planning for sea rise

Cowpuccino building’s lower floor already takes on seawater during high tides with onshore winds

Will prove interesting in future

And look at the new front walk

First note how Cowpuccino’s has almost cut off public ability to pass with signs etc --- but of more import is the poor workmanship of the new flooring --- When I came by last Friday – one of the nails had given way and plank lifted – this time nailed down and some attempt to make smoother – at blue arrow --- I suggest on City property and thus City will have to accept liability when some one eventually trips

Future Mall

Looks like all this property being assembled for a future mall – presumably when the town grows to 20T plus population

Only 2 houses left to go

Perhaps the lot on corner across from Raffles still owned by Raffles – and not sure about the 2 remaining houses – but all the remaining properties rumoured to be owned by the company whose blue van is parked behind whet trailer

Hesse Gambit – as I hear it

Presumably Jack Mussallem played this gambit at last SQCRD meeting, I hear--- staff had requested another clerical position since when present staff away on holidays etc – all their work simply accumulates until they get back --- but ‘The Board’ (read Mussallem) requested that change position to administrative rather than clerical – and that Hesse be allowed to take it --- there was dissent – so Hesse did not apply (so far—though stay tuned)
