Watch Alan Hill and SFU prof John Calvert warn against IPPs in privatized
rivers |
|
Privatizing Power

Aaron Hill |
|
Check
out their
web site and down load the pamphlet and technical papers Here
is an internet version of the typical
run-of-river etc seen on screen behind Aaron --- Here is
the full article from Wilderness Committee One
of Aaron’s main points was that we in NW need regional planning rather than
piece meal ‘developments’ for best ecological and social benefits from local
resources |

Author of Liquid
Gold was ‘star’ performer |
|
This
web site
gives Dr Calvert’s main points from his book Liquid Gold ---- one of the
strengths of his presentation was comparing the present BC Hydro rate
structures with other state, provincial etc – but also detailed accounting
tables of what expensive IPP utilities will cost rate payers in future Of
course this being the internet – the ‘opposition’ has moved to
counter his arguments (or rather ridicule them) |

Maps of
local projects |

I
have modified from their material Clusters
around Stewart; Amyox mines area and in Douglas Channel area – all ‘close’ to
grid access See
articles from Terrace Standard for
most recent concerns regionally See
my earlier where Rafe Maier in town to
speak against IPPs and earlier where ‘Gold Rush’ for wind sites regionally

Monday
Council in-camera meeting was to discuss ‘potential litigation’ |
|
I
hear some home owners here on 8th East were having problems from
leaking City water damaging their houses etc – the Insurance companies
threatened to sue the city --- so the problem is being fixed So
now you know how to influence City Hall – threaten legal action |

The ‘Don’t Flush
the Toilet’ jibe was ‘cute’ --- but the toilet has since been removed – which
couldn’t have been an easy (or safe) job |
