Spring Bloom in Hecate 2008The
sequence above indicates that peak bloom (red) was beginning on the 20th of April
off Haida Gwaii – Green is moderate blooming --- by 21st bloom
broadening – plus increasing on the Central Coast ------ Bloom peaks on the
25th --- and is ‘in decline’ by late April – using satellite
imagery as our indicator – note cloudy days keep ‘us’ from seeing ‘what is
going on’ using this technology I’ll
see when first bloom later – but in 2007 a storm initiated blooms in May () And
here is Bloom in 2005 – much more
spectacular |

April 2008
was ‘cool’ and late spring |
|
Both
the averages for April 2005-2008 and the graphs of the maximum temperatures
during those months can be found at the Prince Rupert airports AWOS
site --- Both graphs and charts show that April 2008 was the coolest of
the series – with April 2005 the warmest – and 2006 and 2007 very similar |

Has this fellow
got enough insurance ‘just in case’ --- City would be liable |
Sidewalk
Signs --- and ‘booby traps’ along Third Avenue |
|
Signs
are actually against City Bylaw --- the issue is liability – but Pond et al
seem to think it is about ‘complaints’ --- and note shop keeper on left –
hanging flower baskets above pedestrians --
|
|
While
skateboarders are ‘dangerous’ on sidewalks for pedestrians – at least you can
hear them coming – unlike many bicycles that zoom past you. But most city
Councillors drive – so they aren’t worried |
Mall trying
to stop Skate Boarders? |
|
No
more practicing jumps here
|
|
|
When
I mentioned the skateboarders and bicycles on city streets at City Council
meeting--- one Councillor said something like ‘but businesses sell skate
boards – we can’t make rules to keep them off sidewalks’ --- so much for
priorities (or good sense) |
|
|
The Port and
the Casino |
|
Pond
and company seem to see this as our future – Casino capitalism – and the strength
of the American economy to keep importing --- does anyone remember Charles
Hayes and his ‘timing’?
|
|
I
hear the City will place ads requesting volunteers for a Board of Variance – 3
members required --- Provincial law says thou shalt have one – but City of PR
claims can’t find anyone interested – so Council fulfils the function –
illegal and wasting time – see
earlier for details—end of page |
More on Budget etc later
|
|
I
asked for details on City workers’ pay raise – and the ‘helpful’ City clerk
suggested I search it out in last weeks newspaper --- Was that 3% compounded
yearly over next – years? |
