Council Meeting Sept 8th

Very long – and lots of fireworks

This is the intro to a very long Council meeting

For me the defeat of the Bus Fare increase was the most lasting result – but time will tell how voters ‘digest’ the ‘wrong doing’ charges brought to Council (see below)

Zoning etc will be dealt with later

The Macho Paradox with Jackson Katz ---a poster on his site presumably outlining his approach

Transition House presentation

City Site has general information

Stopping the Violence Outreach Core Training

Katz main speaker

I will go into this in more detail tomorrow

Liquid Waste Management Plan presentation to Council

That evening an Open House for public and here is the  Power Point Presentation as PDF 2.5 Megs on Cities Liquid Waste documents page

Democracy in action? Or character assassination?

A very interesting discussion by a group that considers something terribly wrong with our local government --- Extremely well prepared with details and ‘facts’ --- Council did well to let them present their case

What about Howie’s 40T$ contract (beside his salary) in 2007? – What about all those others on ‘contract’ – the planner, the acting corporate manager? --- Have they been handled well? Legally?

Preliminary Reactions—different interpretations heard around town

Nepotism or shrewd business deals?

Was Pond the villain of piece for going behind Council ‘s back and ‘authorizing’ Howie’s wife’s contracts?

Was Howie the ‘villain’ for not informing Council of implications and Charter implications? And family benefiting?

Was Council ‘at fault’ for not keeping track of budget and hiring contracts etc?

Is it only a small procedural ‘glitch’ easily rectified by passing retrospective resolution/ bylaw?

I will deal with this in more detail tomorrow
