Council Meeting

Overview

Interesting weather systems – transitional like the fall season --- the Pacific high pressure (blue circle) continues to move south – but the Pineapple Express and the Aleutian Low have yet to form

Overview --- taking care of business --

This council spends most of its time either on junkets or in in-camera meetings --- (both are product of the Pond style leadership I will argue later) – But some things have to be done in Public – like all those pesky groups wanting to give public presentations – (but even the Green Task Force had previously presented to Council in-camera Oct 6th) --- So we heard the public – made a few necessary motions with little to no public input --- and then back to closed meetings where presumably the real business gets done—and discussed

Council had not officially met since September 8th

And 2 of the issues dealt with then have festered until now:

See my Sept 8th:– Demolition order and PR Blvd property consolidation for background

And the Media wasn’t the only ones attending this meeting this time – some citizens actually showed up --

The people in attendance seemed interested in the presentations – which took up most the meeting – and then left --- though I did see Liberal candidate Corrina Morhart come in to listen and watch before leaving to hear election results

Bedard showed Experience and Compassion

Even though she does not live in PR she has been on Council for a long time and her memory of when, why policies had been implemented by previous Councils – and her motion to refer to staff etc – showed the value of experience ---

But her motion to allow one of the delegations to speak first – as he had 2 small children with him--- and it was obvious he would not get to talk until after what was usual bed time for kids --- showed her ability to take compassionate perspective too

Rezoning and more compassion vs ‘Owners’ Rights

I will come back to these presentations and public input later --- but Thorkelson showed compassion also for the plight of at least some of the trailer court residents who may be removed from property

In short said trailer court seems to be on a periphery (pointer on image) thus not needed for immediate project, so Joy and others looking for some ‘compromise’ that would allow both ‘development’ and ‘social justice’

More Later

I will deal with the presentations in more detail – and then the ‘stuff’ that got rushed through with little public oversight – Hopefully to come back to Council again ---
