November 11th

Storm after storm

But rain goes to south

 

Not a bad day for all the wind last night

 

Some showers around today – but mild temperatures etc

 

Second storm passed North Hecate around 9PM and not as strong

 

 

 

 

First the photo ops

Rio Tinto Alcan presents 70T$ to NWCC – the money is Prince Rupert’s share which we had not been able to pay

 

Sheila Gordon Payne was having an exceptionally good night – peppering the Council chatter with numerous sharp observations – here she mentioned that it was she who was at table in 2005 accepting the $$

 

I’ll come back to my last chance to ask question to Pond before he leaves chair (Public Consultation) – its the (by)law

 

Community To Community Forum group photo – prominent place in Council chambers?

Like much of the Pond legacy – it will take time to see what and how the C2C plays out over time --- will it be just another photo op? Or will it be the beginning of period when 1st Nations and local governments combine their interests and infrastructure needs to present senior governments with a common front?

 

Will it be Pond’s legacy??

 

 

Main part of meeting began with a CityWest presentation

Was added to the Agenda – we can see why --- purpose was to counter suggestions that CityWest should be sold --- Jack Payne representing the board and 

 

The Case made

Numbers of employees and the added value of quick professional work – example given several times was how new phones would be installed ‘at your convenience’ rather than weeks from now when techs available as seems to be the practice elsewhere

 

The Way Forward

This slide should go along with the map below – where ‘penetration’ of market seen as % of potential households

I may have skipped a few slides that offered ‘sensitive’ info

 

Note the 26% penetration – and ‘Homes Served’ on map – which really means units passed by cable lines etc

Plans for 2009

So the Digital TV will be extended to Kitimat etc

Note the 1600 present subscribers in Terrace and PR represents 26% of the potential market (penetration)
